A message from the Chuckanut District Director dated October 8, 2016.
I hope each of you who attended enjoyed the Chuckanut District Fall Event this past Thursday in Mount Vernon at the Senior Center. It was really nice to see many familiar faces!
The variety of horticulture brought in by many of you was very much appreciated and I know I'm not the only one who wrote some of the names down in hopes of adding new plants to my garden next year. Thank you Gerry for sharing your knowledge about the variety of plants that were there.
And did you know we had more than one climate in our yard? That was amazing! Finding out we have "micro-climates" in our own back yards, side yards and front yards was very interesting. The game was fun, too.
The floral displays and other types of flower show entries that were prepared and talked about from Sally, Joyce J., Gerry and Iola, who are on the Judges Council, were enjoyed and very interesting. Thank you for sharing them with us.
Thank you Kris, Marisa and Cherie for adding beautiful fall flowers to the centerpieces and putting together bouquets in vases. They were lovely! Thanks also goes to the members who purchased the centerpieces, with the proceeds going to the Emma Jarvis Memorial Garden fund.
It's hard to believe that Chuckanut District is sixty years old. A special thank you to Joyce H. who made the awesome chocolate cake for us to enjoy. It was very tasty! There's nothing like a cake made from scratch.
It was really nice of the Mount Vernon Senior Center to let us use the room for our Event. The lunch was handy for most of us who stayed to enjoy their Oktoberfest special.
Our next gathering for Chuckanut District will be the Spring Soiree, which will be held in Oak Harbor. Terry Critchlow, who is the President of the Washington State Federation of Garden Clubs, will be the guest speaker at the Soiree. We'll also enjoy a lunch, have the Awards Ceremony for the Chuckanut District Garden Clubs and their members and install the new Director and Officers for the next two-year term. Be sure to mark your calendars for April 28, 2017. And encourage other garden club members and friends to attend, too.
Since Oak Harbor Garden Club is having a Standard Flower show on April 28th and 29th, you're invited to enter a floral design and/or bring horticulture to put in their show. More information will be available later for their show.
Within the next couple months, you'll be receiving information regarding the awards nomination process for Chuckanut District. There are several different kinds of awards that can be applied for. Some are for the Club and others are for individual members. The Awards Ceremony is a highlight of the Spring Soiree, so be sure to take the time to apply for them before the deadline.
Once again, I hope you each had an enjoyable time! Keep warm and dry during our rains and blustery winds we're experiencing now! Hope to see or talk to you soon!
